Yesterday, we checked into the ship. As we were waiting in the check.in linem we realized that 90% of the clientele here is above 60 years old. Even the people who worked at check-in, all had grey hair!
The boat itself is quite big, but maybe not as massive as I had thought. It has 10 decks, and we are on the 8th. There are 2000 passengers onboard this cruise, but it neer seems too crowded. Not yet, anyways. I do like the whole style of cruising, and am already thinking this is something I can do another time. Although I am generally against all-inclusive and charter trips where everything is laid out for you. I like the fact that we are moving from country to country, and I do like the act that I can go and eat as much as I want at any time I want, without paying for it! Haha!
Yesterday, we walked around the ship to see what there is to do here, and what is where. Tried sitting outside for a bit, but Fort Lauderdale weather hasn't been great. We are still suffering from slight jetlag, by 10 pm, we are incredibly tired! But I didn't mind yesterday, as I wanted to get up early for today and the Bahamas..
This morning I got up at 6.50 am. Excited, and hyper to see a part of the Bahamas! I was quite disappointed when I saw dark clouds and even some rain outside. The Bahamas has 320 sunny days pr. Year, and of all days, today had to be a cloudy one! The weather is not as I ordered it! I am in the Caribbean, there should be sun the whole time!
I also got a bit of a disappointment, when I realized that this particular island is actually owned by the cruise line! No real Bahamian feeling there! I guess that is the drawback to travelling like this.....
Anyhow, we got into a smaller boat, as we were anchored up, and went onto Half Moon Cay, a small uninhabited island that is in the Bahamas chain. The weather did een lighten up throughout the day, and by the time we left, there had been glimpses of sun for about 15 minutes, yay!
It is still hot though, 32 degrees, so it was nice to hae a swim in the nice turqoise waters.
It was a small little island. Colourful little houses, Caribbean style. A long, very white and fine beach. I love walking along beaches, so I went for a walk as far as I could get along the beach.
After that we went exploring the other side of the island for a while, then I had a swim with my swimming goggles to see if there was something worth seeing, but there wasn't much.
It was a nice little island, and even though the sun didn't come out, it was nice and relaxing to lie on the beach again!
At 3 pm the ship left the Bahamas, and has set course for Aruba. It will take a day and a half, so tomorrow is a day at sea. I am really hoping for great weather, so I can tan and relax up on deck. I not, then there are lots of activities to keep us occupied.
Today I did a Tai Chi class, and I was deinitely the only one under 50! Hahaha. They also have a cinema here, so we went for a movie, and now it is 10 pm, which is a new record, maybe we can stay up a little longer, so we don't wake up at 6 am tomorrow morning, hehe. Jetlag is definitely the downside of travelling!
