Well, what can I say, I have had an amazing 9 days in Bocas Del Toro in Panama. Bocas is on the Caribbean coast of Panama, and has a bunch of Islands off the coast (no idea how many). I flew from Panama City on Thursday afternoon. I stayed at a pretty crazy backpackers...really social, with a bar which kicked off with happy hour at 7pm every night and was always packed. Each night seemed to have a different theme (often with people dressed up), and plenty of drunk people....one night we even had some people collecting money to run down the road naked....unfortunately when they were half undressed (bottom half) a cop car came down the road and told them off! There were a number of other bars around town, mostly on the waterfront and each night a different one had ladies night. Ladies night here meant ladies get free (yes free) drinks! I only ended up going to the other bars about 2ce, every other night was spent at the bar at the backpackers.
While the nights were mostly spent drinking (my poor body) the days were spent heading to various beaches and islands and chilling out....what a great way to spend 9 days! There were some beautiful beaches and I met some amazing people in Bocas. We had heaps of fun! After only a day or two you could walk down the road and constantly be bumping into people you knew. I think that is what I loved about the place...so social and amazing people.
Mostly the weather was great, except one day when a bunch of us went to one of the Islands in a boat (of course) and the trip over was a little rough. The guys who had surfboards with them, had to get dropped out quite far form the beach and the rest of us had to get off the boat in waist deep water, trying not to be bowled over by waves. After about an hour on the beach the rain came...and there was no shelter. We ended up spending most of our time in the sea as that was the warmest place to be. The boat trip back was pretty crazy but heaps of fun. We were absolutely drenched to the bone. We had a similar boat ride a few days later, it was so bad, some of the guys were wearing their goggles in the boat!
On my 1st day there I met an American guy, Justin who was on surfing vacation with some friends, and I ended up spending quite a bit of time with him. 2ce we hired scooters and went out to a beach on the other side of the Island which was fun. He drove the bike, thank goodness. We also got to go to a really cool beach which had heaps of big starfish on it.
What a great 9 days - partying at night, lazying on a different beach or island during the day and great people...I had so much fun. The night before I left I realised I did not want to leave just yet, but unfortunately I had a plane to catch at 9am and then another one later that day to Colombia, so it would have been a little tricky to change my plans....!
