Kim's Travels
We were woken extremely early today and had brekkie. We sailed (very bumpily) to Whitehaven Beach. First of all we took a bush walk to see it. I love walking through the bush, this time we licked ants bums! No, I'm not joking, there are these ants which form a bulbus nest with the leaves which hangs on the tree. The aboriginals used them medically. Basically, their bums carry an extremely citricy liquid which you can lick. It is so strong and almost feels like a mini mini electric shock (like when you put those batteries on your tongue?!) or a burn/sting. We learnt about black boy plants (how very PC). After another leg on the boat we stopped for a snorkel. I debated, debated and debated about whether to get in the cold water and eventually decided to go for it. The crew advised us to wear stinger suits as if you get stung it can be fatal - however the season is over and we risked it. Naomi, Alex and I all jumped in together and once we got over the not-that-bad-cold-ness it was pretty cool. We saw some funky fish, amazing coral and jellyfish; one of which decided to swim right under me! Theres a huge board in Airlie telling you about what to do if you get stung by one, some of the symptoms are pretty scary but only two are deadly so its all good and safe. I was really pleased I went though. That night we had supper and played some HILARIOUS games!
