Kim's Travels
OUR LAST DAY IN AUSTRALIA :( Very sad indeed, nevertheless we made the most of it, of course. We got up reletively early and caught a bus to Kuranda; a small town outside of Cairns with a large aboriginal community. We saw Will and Catherine on the bus and started the windy journey up the mountain! We finally arrived and were quite lucky as there was an Aboriginal festival on celebrating their culture. We took a walk round the town checking out all the little souvenirs and trinkets etc... There were lots and lots of markets with some really cool stuff. Then we headed towards the marquees where there was traditional aboriginal food which was cool - it was very much like that of the Mauri's in New Zealand, and cooked in the ground too - chicken, pork, lamb and beef with pumpkin, sopa-sopa (whatever that is, we came to the conclusion it was fruit like guava or something) and their special doughy bread. After, we decided to walk to the Bulla Falls which was an experience in itself! We got kinda lost and ended up on the jungle pathway when we should have stuck to the road but 2 hours later we finally got there and it was pretty stunning. Huge too! We managed to escape the rain on the way back and waited for our bus back to Cairns. We're going to go to the night market tonight and perhaps pick up some last minute souvenir before a very early night in preparation for a very early start; 4am! Argh! But I don't mind because... THAILAND HERE I COME!! Woohoo...
