Hi Guys
Well we arrived into Airlie Beach at 6am and of course our hostel reception didn't open until 7:30 so we had a bit of waiting around to do. When we hopped off the bus Tom spotted someone that he went to school with, he had been traveling on the same bus as us! I'm sure we've said it before but...'small world!' After finally checking into our hostel we met up with Sarah (one of the girls we met in Hervey Bay) and Kerry. We all headed down to the lagoon (they're everywhere here!) and caught up on sleep that we lost on the night bus. Unfortunatly we slept a bit too long and we ended up getting really sun burnt - ouch! We had some food and then had a few drinks at our hostel bar. Saturday was pretty chilled, we had to wait to put our luggage into storage as this hostel only opened their luggage storage cupboard once an hour on the hour and we missed one by a couple minutes - literally just because we weren't paying attention - but no exceptions! so we then had to wait for another hour! grrr! After finally storing our luggage we went for supllies for our Whitsunday's trip "the supplies' being two boxes of goon (very cheap wine)!! We headed down to the pier and set off on 'Pacific Star' After having a few drinks and chatting to people on our boat we headed down to our room. The bed was swarming and we mean swarming with bed bugs! - grose! they were everywhere! As Tom had opened his bag up next to the bed, they were inside all his stuff! That night we had to sleep in the communal area - great!
We woke up Sunday and had some breakie before being taken to Whitehaven beach which was an awsome beach with squeeky sand! We managed to see a baby shark in the shallow water of the bay!
Back on the boat we had some lunch before everyone got their 'free dive'. The dives were done in water with hardly 3m visability whereas the dives on the outer reef had about 15m visability, which we had to pay for! what a rip off! A load of us had some drinks that night - not a good idea as yesterday morning the sea was really choppy, and the further away from land we got the choppier it got, alot of people were feeling hungover and so we spent the morning all hanging over the side of the boat! It wasn't a very social morning! When we got to the outer reef the snorkelling was good even though we had already used our 'included free dive'. The next night was pretty quiet after the night before but as we were still sleeping in the comunal area we had to wait for everyone to finish watching films before we could go to sleep!
Today we were dropped at another remote beach and snorkelled some more this morning. We had lunch before heading back to shore. We are meeting up with some of the others and some of the crew later for a few beers.
Off to Magnetic Island next.
Hope all is well at home.
Speak to you soon
