Hi Everyone
Sunday we flew to Arequipa and arrived in the afternoon. Some people went for a wander around by Tom had to see another Doctor to try and finally sort him out. In the evening we went out for something to eat.
Monday we set off for our two day excursion to Colca Canyon which turned out to be pretty pointless, we spent most of our time on the bus. That afternoon we went to some thermal pools where everyone was drinking (expect Tom because of his anti biotics) in the evening we had an all you can eat buffet which was good value for money.
Yesterday we got up at 5:00am to go and see the condors fly over the canyon. The view of the canyon was great and we had a pleasant walk around the edge but we walked around for three hours and only saw three condors from quite a distance, not quite worth the 5 o´clock rise. In the afternoon we went for another hike close to our hotel, our guide took us up a near by hill to some Inca graves "protecting" the valley but inside you could still se all different parts of skeletons - grose!! We went to eat in a restuarant in the evening where we watched traditional peruvian dances aswell.
This morning we travelled back to Arequipa and when we arrived we went to the museum to see Juanita. Juanita was a young Inca girl who was sacrificed at the top of one of the highest mountains in the area over 500 years ago. In 1995 when a nearby volcano errupted the snow at the top of Juanita´s mountain melted and thats when the archeologists found her. She was also completely preserved by the ice, apart from some parts of her body which were exposed to the sun. You can still clearly see that she was a young girl (about 12 years old). It was pretty errie! This afternoon we have lazed around as we have a night bus later.
Speak to you soon.
Love us x x x
