From Nairobi we drove to Lake Navaisha - the first stop on our African expedition. Passing a UNICEF refugee camp en route was a stark reminder of the troubles that Kenya has recently experienced. The camp is just one of many in this area housing up to a million displaced people - very sad.
Our campsite was amidst many greenhouses growing flowers most of which are shipped to the UK and Europe. So guys - next time you buy your lady some roses - they probably came from where we are staying!!
We met the rest of the group at the campsite. We are the only Brits so will have to work hard to fly the flag!!!On the trip we have 2 New Zealanders, 4 Aussies and 5 Americans and a mix of ages from 19 to late 40's.
We spent a very pleasant hour out on Lake Navaisha - spotted loads of hippo families (getting a little too close for comfort knowing they could at any minute sink our boat!) Kim also got a chance to realise just what a crap photographer she is - we had 6 chances to photograph a fish eagle diving for a fish thrown by our boat driver - did Kim get one picture? No! Time to read the manual I think!!!
