Hey, we left you as we were heading up to Cape Tribulation and Daintree National Park. Both are truly stunning, we left red dust behind and found lush green mountain ranges and beautiful beaches. Unfortunately you can't swim in the sea as it is full of pesky jelly fish and saltwater crocs, big boo. Still we found a rather cold water hole which we lasted in for all of 4 mins, how refreshing. We spent our first day visiting the various walkways that lead you through the oldest rainforest on earth and much to Hattie's delight we only encountered a few spiders. We then made our second visit to a garage, the only one up here, as Beastie decided to suddenly involuntarily turn on all of her windscreen washers. Initially the champagne fountain was rather amusing but when the water ran out but the motor kept going we realised that prehaps she was again broken. A helpful chap pulled out a fuse, stopping the motor, and rather annoying the windscreen wipers from working which in a rainforest is slightly essential. However, the nice mechanic spent 40 mins putting in a new funky button for the washers and rewired the wipers awesome, even more awesomely he charged us 5 bucks for the his efforts.
The next day we went out to sea on The Rum Runner sailing boat out to the The Great Barrier reef for our snorkelling adventure. We were on board with 11 others on a boat kitted out for 60. We were certainly spoilt. We cruised for an hour before having a 2hr snorkel session where saw thousands of stunning fish and the amazing colurs and textures of the reef. We stopped for lunch and a marine talk before venturing back into the ocean. This time was even better we saw a turtle and managed to swim along with him, barely keeping up, and then a 5ft white tip reef shark that we did also manage to follow, obvioulsy from a little distance. The whole thing was breathtaking and a real highlight.
We then hot footed it down to Port Douglas, along the stunning coast road. The next day we spent chilling around the harbour and beaches of Port Douglas, a pretty, and expensive town. We are now in Cairns, having met up with Bish for a beer over the Wales New Zealand rugby, cool. We are here for one more day before heading southwards ever nearer to Sydney.
Thanks for the messages you have been leaving. We promise we will answer some of your emails soon.
Lots of love to all, Us xx
