Kim and Hattie
Aye karumba - well, you may or may not have noticed that it's been a while - about a month to be not very exact. As a consequence of our complete rubbishness, we feel the need to effectively bullet point our last month of travels. Most of you will be relieved to hear this we're pretty sure; though you do still have to look at all the photos when we return. I think we're in the 2500 league at the mo - what joy you lucky ducks.
So after Cape Tribulation, we've basically covered the following:
- Port Douglas - very affluent and does a damn good banana split
- Cairns - went to A and E to sort out scuba lips (don't ask) and met with Bishbags
- Innisfail / Josephine Falls - stunning waterfalls - they were very wet
- Mission Beach - beautiful beach with swarms of beetles - watched good toad/beetles fights
- Paluma National Park - the longest, steepest, scariest windy road ever - well done beastie
- Townsville - went to cinema to see Australia movie - don't bother
- Bowen - went to see set of where Australia movie was filmed - don't bother
- Airlie Beach / Whitsundays - stunning tallship sailing for 3 days, lovely crew, people and awesome snorkelling with turtles, wait to see us in our stinger suit photo (2248 I think)
- 1770 / Agnes Water - beautiful beach, no beautiful surf
- Bundaberg - tour of the rum factory (sweet), watched turtles laying eggs on the beach and helped to relocate some of their eggs - they felt funny
- Rainbow Beach / Fraser Island - 2 day tour of the world's largest sand island, it was incredible and indeed very sandy. Really good photos from there, honest
- Noosa - very expensive area, we fitted in magnificently in our faded shorts and battered vest tops, we were like Paris and Nicole. We also picked up Bish for a weeks worth of adventures
- Peregian Bay - rather lovely beach, barbecue and Raymond Briggs's Father Christmas was genuinely on the beach
- Brisbane - it sucks to drive in it and the cultural walk only dates back to around 1982, Kim was older than most of it - fascinating
- Byron Bay - glorious walk up to the lighthouse, watched a pod of 20 dolphins, trekked for an ice lolly, swam in very wavy water
- Coffs Harbour - bit of a storm, really nice campsite, regrettably we didn't stay there very long (5am start to go to . . . )
- The Blue Mountains (Katoomba) - please see accompanying photo of the 3 sisters - breathtaking views, incredible canyon walk, best thigh exercise ever, chuffing freezing - we loved it
- Sydney baby - lovely apartment, with a bed and wardrobe and bathroom and kitchen (we'd been in a van for 7 weeks). Bliss. Christmas Eve, we managed to watch Vicar of Dibley, Christmas Day on Bondi beach, Boxing Day watching start of Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, New Year's Eve watched 5 tonnes of fireworks from the Botanic Gardens next to Sydney Opera House - outstanding. Tomorrow we're exploring the city and climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge - we'll let you know how it goes.
Love to you all, we wish you a very merry Christmas, a super happy new year and can't wait to catch up with you guys in 2009. Today we're officially half way, so we'll see you soon you lovely monkeys xx
