Namaste!! We're in india!!
So before i tell you about the crazy land of india, lets go back to malaysia where the last blog was done (sorry ive got lazy!!)
So we left kecil island with good tans and sad hearts and headed up into the mountains of the cameron highlands. Cool, friendly, very like home and insane plants and animals. We had a ball there, we went to tea plantations, walked through the forests, visited strawberryfarms, honey bee farms, gardens. It was great. The hostel we stayed in was very homely and we lounged around on sofas watching tv and eating lots of lovely home grown fruit and veg. Bliss.
From there we visited kuala lumpur, crazy big bustling city with the petronas towers (watch the film entrapment!) and some good markets. Here we had a terrible hotel, the only thing in our budget, and it included bed bugs and cockroaches. Lovely!
From KL to kuala selangor, a little town with a nature park that we hiked through spotting monkeys, monitor lizards, herons and amazing bugs. Then onto a small historical town called melaka (a huge trading port in its day). Melaka had some good museums and lovely food but the call to prayer at the mosque across the road at 5am every morning was a bit tedious!!
And then to singapore - the city of the underground malls! Lovely place, very clean and organised but no real soul if you know what i mean. We wandered around for a few days, went to the zoo (which was incredible!) and hid in the air con of the shopping malls for most of the days!
Finally we flew to Delhi. Wow.
Mix one spoonful of colour and two cups of dirt and sewage, beat with a level of insane driving and crowded streets. Pour over cows and camels on the roads along with lovely characters and friendly people. Now sprinkle some delicious food and put in the oven at 50 degrees during the day and 40 degrees at night. What do you make? India.
Its mental, even compared to the other things we've seen, its mental. Theres just so much happening in such a small space and its so different to everywhere else. We had organised a driver to show us around the delhi area. His name is Mukesh and he's a god send. The place is crazy and even after 10 months of travelling, we'd still find this tough without the car. He helps us find our hotel and gets us to and from the sights. He also helps with how much things should cost and if people are annoying us (which is almost always!)
In delhi we went to a few mosques and tombs, most of the time we were too busy staring at all the crazy antics on the streets to notice much else! After 2 days we drove to agra - the countryside being much more peaceful but still amazing to watch. In agra we saw the one and only taj mahal - it was pouring with rain and all the locals were laughing at us, the only 2 tourists getting wet!! Wonderful place though and lots of good photos.
From agra to Jaipur, the pink city and the gateway to rajastan and the desert. Its like something out of indiana jones. Beautiful. There we spent a few days visiting palaces and the incredible amber fort with its elephants and camels walking around! Whilst there we were in a busy market and a cheeky local felt mo's bum. Kezz went chasing after him (as in india it is a great insult to touch someone elses woman like that, much more than at home) and caught the guy. You've never seen anyone so scared in your life! ha ha!
Then we headed to Mandawa - a large village in the centre of a farmland area with lots of little villages. Here we're spending three nights going on adventures to the little towns and buying bits and bobs from the local markets. Lots of staring here as theres not so many tourists. The kids are great though and are always swarming round us shouting a few words in english! Mo's blonde hair is becoming a real pain as whenever we stop we get a group of men standing round us just watching!
Being careful about what we eat as the infamous delhi beli can attack at any time. Been ok so far! Still getting used to the heat though - we flew into delhi at 2am and it was 41 degrees - its not been any cooler since!!
We had spoke to a lot of travellers about india before we arrived and they all had bad things to say about it. Now we think its because a lot of them came here straight from home - it would be such a huge shock you would hate it. So we're really lucky that we're so used to dirt and heat and the weird and wonderful that we can appreciate the good bits. If that makes sense!
Anyway, after mukesh drops us back in delhi - the new adventure begins. But you'll hear about that soon enough.
Miss you all loads as usual!! But its soon going to be over which is really depressing as we've got quite used to life on the road!
Love kezz and mo x x x
