We arrived at the house well after dark on Wednesday 20 June. It was cold and raining, so we hurriedly unpacked all the things from the car, got the girls into bed and and then settled down to some leftover soup for dinner. Afterwards, we sat around relaxing in the lounge drinking wine and eating some delicious cheeses with crackers. Everyone was pretty tired though and soon we all headed off to bed.
Thursday we woke up, had a quick breakfast and then took a drive to the nearby shopping centre to get some groceries. It was our first chance to see things in the day. Ocean Grove may have that 'holiday town' feel to it, but quite a few people live there and so its much bigger than, say, Betties Bay back home. In fact, it reminds me a bit of Hermanus. After the mandatory stop at the lolly-shop, we popped home to unpack the car and then drove to Torquey, birthplace of Rip Curl and Quicksilver, to have lunch. We ate at this cool restaurant overlooking the sea. It was a pitty about the weather - I imagine it must be amazing there during summer. Next, we drove further along the Great Ocean Road to see the famous Bells Beach, venue of the Rip Curl Pro. Noone ventured out the car on account of the weather, so we had to just look from a distance :-/ The kids fell asleep in the car on the way home, but didn't stay down for long, so we played all kinds of games that afternoon and evening in the lounge. We had tacos for dinner that night - so good! Once the kids were in bed, we just relaxed in front of the TV until bedtime.
Friday was the day we had to leave. We packed up our things, had some yummy crumpets for breakfast and then all bundled into the car. Jeannine drove us through to Geelong, the nearest town where we could catch a train. We bought our tickets from a super friendly ticket seller and then said our final goodbyes. It was about 45 minutes until the next train, so we just chilled out in the station. Once we had boarded, we tucked into the packed lunch that Jeannine had kindly made us :-) and watched the scenery go by as we made our way to Melbourne.
