Not much to say about today. Spent the morning cleaning the flat before leaving, even though the cleaners were in the next day! Drove to St Paul in heavy rain. Found hotel which is in beautiful surroundings. Drinks reception at the hotel where wine flowed freely! Dinner on balcony.

After a very late start we headed east through the wooded slopes to visit the brilliantly named Souterroscope, which is a cave, discovered in 1990. On a limestone plateau, you go in alone and there is a "son et lumiere" presentation as you go through each section. The cave was magnificent with lots of formations and brilliant white stalactites. We drove the long way to the Carmargue today. The guide books are offputting as they describe gangs of thieves who target foreign cars. Once we had turned off the main road at Arles, the land immediately became flat with big skies. After all the travelling we didn't get up early. When we did we found it was both raining and windy - not the plan! We had already decided that we didn't want to do any driving and would stay in the village. It was lunchtime by the time we made our way out and all the shops were shut. Long day driving down to Provence. We did some shopping in Reims before setting off at 11 am, two hours later than planned. It was a beautiful sunny day. Unfortunately Joan's phone doesn't work in France and it was the only phone we had. We tried to phone the caretaker for the house from a service station but it didn't have a phone.
