Kevin and Joannie on tour
We woke up late, mainly due to our late dinner.
Downstairs the breakfast buffet was huge. Some of the things we had no idea what they were such as "biscuit" (looked like cobblers) with a white sauce with brown flecks. Joan made waffles and they brought hot milk in a tea pot.
We had an idea about catching an open top bus tour. The receptionists were great and told us where the buses stopped, so we headed off.
A few blocks down we came across City Hall. There was a children's event there where you could climb into, on and around various municipal trucks, police cats, fire tenders, etc. It all looked good fun and a good PR exercise for the council.
We then walked down Miracle Mile, an old regeneration initiative that encouraged small shops to prosper in Coral Gables. Its founder, George Merrick, has his statue outside of City Hall.
There were lots of boutiques and coffee shops but we couldn't find the stoop for the bus. On looking at the bus guide more carefully, it became clear one had to get down to the waterfront area to buy tickets. This was some walk away and time was ticking by, so we gave up on that idea.
On the way we visited a pet store that weren't as over the top as we expected but we did see doggy wedding outfits and cat water fountains. There were drive through pharmacies and banks. A cute bus ran along the streets, decorated like an old trolley bus. (This brought back memories of our trip to the former Ukraine/Crimea where we caught the world's longest trolley bus ride from Simferopol to Yalta. It also reminded us of the suffering some of our mining comrades in Donetsk are going through today, which we visited on the same trip.)
We had a local beer before ensuring that we were at the airport to clear Homeland Security. Holiday over!
