Hi everyone,
We are finally into our last week and the first week here has been great. Hollywood was really exciting and on our last day when we were leaving McDonalds we got to see P Diddy, we couldn't believe it after what we had already seen here, we got some good photos too. After Hollywood we picked our 22ft campervan up, man it's huge...comparing it to the vans we had in Oz and New Zealand it's a giant. It has a shower, toilet, lounge, 3 double beds, a kitchen with a microwave, fridge freezer and an oven. Yes it's a hotel on wheels and so America.
We began travelling south towards San Diego and have passed a number of lovely areas. We drove down the pacific highway therefore we aren't far away from a beach at any time.
I have always wanted to surf at Trestles which is a famous surf break which I got chance to do. We drove through Laguna Beach to a spot called Newport Beach (where The OC is filmed). The area is so posh and nearly everyone has a Merc, Corvette, BMW or a Hummer. I was quite excited too because we got to go see The Wedge which is a famous wave with shorebreak up to 20ft, on a good day there is camera crews and ambulances everywhere to either film or save crazy surfers taking off on this huge shorebreak. Unfortunately when we went there though it was as flat as a pancake unless Quark is cooking them of course (yes I have heard all the stories Quarkyboy).
Unfortunately poorly Clare has lost most of her tan due to an alergic reaction to a cleaning product they cleaned our van with. Her skin went all blochy and she was itching like mad, therefore itching her skin off. I took her to the chemist and they gave her some tablets to stop the itching but not the peeling. She thinks she looks like freddy cruger I said to her it's much worse than that, only joking. She is better now and hopefully if the sun comes out she can rebuild her tan.
Every beach I have surfed so far has had dolphins cruising by. But it still excites me to see them each time. The surf has been ok and the sea temperature is quite like England, a real shock coming from Fiji. Me and Clare both went for a surf at Huntington Beach (USA Surf City) yesterday and Clare is doing really well. Because she is improving so quickly, I let her have a go on my board and was teaching her to duck dive to get through the waves, we are hopefully going to get her a new board when we get back, so she can go to the next level in her surfing. I think Fiji has really brought on my surfing and surfing over those shallow reefs have made beach breaks seem much easier to surf.
We are loving our time out here and should be heading north towards Malibu today. Speak to you all soon, love Kevin and Clare. xxxxxxxxxx
