Saturday
We had a lazy day as everyone had felt a bit rough from the night before. Nick and I went for a late breakfast along the riverfront which was really nice, and Lauren and Lisa joined us as we shouted them across when they were walking back from their breakfast. We decided to chill by the pool for a bit and watched others engage in circus activities - there was some event going on that evening that people had travelled to come to this hostel to participate in so they were all pretty good and we were too embarrassed at our lack of skill to join in! The atmosphere of the hostel was great and as like most places, they had their own pets (dogs) which also relaxed with travellers around the place.
Later on in the day we decided to rent some scooters and get out to see Pai properly so we went and sorted that out and ate at an enchanting little place called, 'The Witching Well', which I absolutely loved and would recommend to anyone going to Pai. Lauren and Nick became designated drivers and Lisa and I were happy to be on the backs, we let them have a few practise runs around the block before hopping on and making a plan to find the canyon.
It wasn't too far away, and after a lot of squealing getting used to being on the bike and clinging onto Nick, we arrived at the canyon for sunset. The view was beautiful and it was great that it was free and that you could go off and wander/explore as far and ask with as much risk as you wanted. We took some great pics, then Lauren, Nick and I went off exploring a bit while Lisa held back as she isn't great with heights. Since having came travelling I've found myself more confident with things I'd normally not have done and was pleased with myself for walking out on a ledge at one point - something which I'd usually have a fear of heights with but I think since zip lining in the jungle from the gibbon experience it helped me conquer a large amount of that fear.
We got back on the bikes and went for a drive around the countryside which was amazing to do - it reminded me of being back on the backs of the motorbikes when Lauren and I were in Dalat, Vietnam. The views were stunning and I felt like Pai was a really peaceful place. Later on we went to see the night market for snacking on street food as thankfully it wasn't raining. The market was great, it had tons of food stands and lots of different clothes and accessories - it's now my favourite night market since travelling, and it was the Kings birthday so there were many street entertainers (nobody was drinking though as this is a law set out annually). We walked around for a bit but Lisa had a bad foot with an awkward placed blister so we headed back early. After a phone call home we had an update on grandads condition, which means unfortunately he won't be out of hospital for weeks and is still not himself so we are still hoping he will get better soon. We then watched a few of the circus acts before getting an early night.
