Great Ocean Road - Part 3
Finally some sun!!! We woke up to a fine day in Apollo Bay and decided to go to their Saturday morning market, but as we drove up we could see only 3 stalls! So we kept on driving around to a little parking spot and got out for a walk along the beach. We then continued driving along the coast, taking in the beautiful scenery with waves beating against the cliffs until we reached the town of Lorne. There we stopped at the park on the foreshore and had some morning tea and walked along to the playground for Callen to burn off some energy. From Lorne we went inland to Erskine Falls, only about 14km away but it was a steep hilly drive and then a very steep decent from the main road to the falls carpark. The walk into the falls was also very steep with lots of steps that had become very muddy and slippery. But when we reached the bottom, the view was definitely worth the climb down, and then the calf-killing climb back up. But the best part of the day was when we were driving out of Lorne, and saw a whole bunch of people standing on the beach looking out at some whales swimming in the bay really close to shore. So we pulled over too and spent some time watching the 3 southern wright whales splashing their flippers and raising their heads out of the water. It was an awesome experience! Callen was getting tired, so we hopped back in the bus and headed onto Aireys Inlet where Bec got out for a quick walk to the lighthouse and a couple of lookouts on the headland. We then drove through Anglesea to Torquay and watched the surfers at Surf Beach while we had a drink and final photo of our Great Ocean Road adventure. We made it! And we didn't have any more trouble with the bus today after Kent tried fixing it again last night - yay! So not far now to Geelong, and then Melbourne to catch the boat in a few days time.
