We started the morning in Kapunda feeding ducks at the park and then did the historic drive route around town. Kapunda is notable for a few things: being the oldest copper mining town in Australia; having strong links to Sir Sidney Kidman with one of his homes here; and being the town of Fisher in the TV series McLeod's Daughters. It was a good drive, but a bit too long - there's only so many houses with "wrought iron lace work typical of the area" you can take! We were going to also have a look in the local history museum, but Callen fell asleep so we decided to keep driving onto the Barossa Valley.
As luck would have it, the Barossa was having a special 'Gourmet Barossa' weekend where some of the wineries had gourmet food and music at their cellar doors. We stopped at 4 places that were closest to where we were driving anyway, and sampled a number of wines and bought some to bring home. There were lots of mini-buses doing the vineyard tours too, so it was kind of funny to pull up next to them in our bus and jump out with a 16 month old while all the other people were clambering on and off their tour... getting progressively messier as the afternoon went on! Even though it was a cold, rainy day, it was great to get out at each stop and have a look around. Our favorite one was Gibson Wines, because it had a rustic look to it and less people than the other places so we could enjoy the music and atmosphere (and Pinot Gris!) a bit more.
At the end of the day, we were all pretty tired but drove onto a rest stop at Tailem Bend for the night.
