Well it took us 2 days to get here from Coober Pedy but we finally made it! We woke early so that we could drive to the National Park to see Uluru at sunrise. We were a little late but it was still spectacular to see the desert colours changing as the sun came up and then shadows highlight Uluru itself. From the second lookout, it was a short drive after breakfast to start our first walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole. This was a nice, easy walk and we were able to take Callen in the pram. Seeing the sheer sandstone rock face was awesome and no pictures ever do "The Rock" justice for illustrating the size of it! We then went to the cultural centre and wandered through the art gallery and shop, but the aboriginal art and crafts seemed very commercialized, with the "tourist" price tag. After lunch we then headed on to Kata Tjuta/The Olgas and walked the Walpa Gorge. This time Callen had to be carried in the Baby Bjorn which was a little more difficult. But the walk was worth it and it was nice and cool in the shade of the gorge with a rest spot at the end. We also walked the Valley of the Winds walk to the first lookout (also carrying Callen) but this was much hotter! It was a very full day but we still managed to cram in one more photo opportunity with Uluru in the late afternoon sun. We stopped at Yulara to get some supplied and fuel - and paid the most expensive diesel price on the trip so far...$2.08 per litre!
Looking forward to a cool shower at the end of the day now, and then Kings Canyon tomorrow.
