Alice Springs
On our way from Curtain Springs to Alice Springs we did a slight detour off the highway into the Henbury Meteorite Craters. It was a short walk from the car park along the trail with some really good interpretive information at the biggest crater sites. On the way back out to the highway, we saw a dingo! The second one in two days, and this one hung around on the road long enough for us to get some video and photos. We arrived in Alice Springs late in the afternoon but it was a great time to see the sun hitting the MacDonnell Ranges and the beautiful landscape that surrounds the town. It is a lot bigger, and busier, than what I thought it would be! We did some shopping and bought Callen a new sun hat (which he won't wear anyway) and checked into the caravan park. While in Alice Springs, we have visited the School of the Air, which was a disappointment compared to Broken Hill; the Museum of Central Australia, which had an awesome geology display and other exhibitions and Callen enjoyed the stuffed animals; and Anzac Hill, with it's beautiful views over the town and towards the ranges. We also made friends with Fronz, a very talkative Dutchman who we met in the caravan park and who has a bus like ours but is a little older. He asked several times "you want to swap?" and was very funny! We also enjoyed a good pub meal with some great music to finish the night off before heading into the national park tomorrow.
