So day 10 of our holiday! we signed up for 1 day tour of Litchfield national park (well some of it!)
We were picked up at hostel by bus and our guide for today, Daz. All these early starts are starting to take their toll.
We had a bigger group than Kakadu N.P tour, i reckon about 18/19.
Got chatting to 2 Aussie guys down back of the bus. One barman from Sydney up here on interview fire fighting station. He said he was so tough to get into fire jobs anywhere in Oz and how 5000 people applied for like 80 jobs. The other lad was from Melbourne on holidays.
First stop was jumping croc cruise (same one as Kakadu tour) but I didn't really mind as this was something really special. Watching these species doing what they were doing really put nature in perspective. Got some class pics and and guide Robbie was really someone who understood the croc side of nature. (jumping croc cruises).
Once done with the crocs we hopped back on bus and headed for Litchfield. Stopped at little shop/café for lunch (same as yesterday) and got chatting to an elderly couple from Brisbane who gave us lots of tips on east coast!
We stopped first at termite mounds - unbelievable how they are formed and these story behind them.
After the mounds we drove about 20 mins to a swim area called Florence falls. Absolutely class place but a b****** to get to...about 150 steps and a climb over lots of rock to get into pool. But, well worth it. Done some snorkelling / swimming there under the falls before leaving an hour later.
Feet were a bit sore from the rocks and long walk back to bus!
Back in the road again for about 10 mins to another swim site called Buley rock pool. Water from high mountains flows through a serious of pools with a strong current! Great place to relax and we ventured into a few of the pools for some god pics. Some of the pools had class jumping spots (even though signs warned you against this!) and I even managed to somersault from fairly high up. My Back was not good after it! Sadly, that was the last stop on our Litchfield tour and it was time to head back to hostel. Met a young English couple who gave us great tips / avoidances on the east coast (can't wait!!).
Got dropped back to hostel for about 6.30pm and we wandered down Smith street to check of shops were open, buy they weren't . Said we would come back here tomorrow for a look as there seemed like good shopping and we had a few hours to kill.
Decided to get a takeaway pizza in Mitchells pizza (meatasaurus!!) which was lovely and cheap (more importantly!) brought it back to room and had a few beers! Sorry to all our friends who recommended pubs in Daaarwwwin but we were wrecked every night! Shenanigans looked like a lively spot every night though!
I think Carol and I would prefer to spend drinkie dollars in Melbourne / sydney when we meet up with Family and friends!
