5 hours driving ahead today! We decided to get on road about 9am as we needed to get into Port Macquarie to a bank. While we were in the town we took some nice pics of the gorgeous pier before getting on with moving south! Our final destination today was summer bay or palm beach where home and away is filmed! Carol is mega excited!!
The only stop we made en route was at Newcastle for some fuel and grub. Drove through Newcastle - we were told to avoid it as there wasn't much to see/do, now I know what they mean! Very industrial town, lots of smoking high chimneys.
We swapped driving and I drove towards Sydney and then back out of it towards palm beach! They couldn't just put a road across no??!
They drive was cool through, a 110kmph 4 lane freeway which just seemed to go on forever with stunning views. Just as we got views of Sydney we turned off in direction of palm beach. The plan was to catch some pics on the beach tonight, stay around the beach and come back tomorrow morning as they were due to film.
We drove up the long and winding roads to palm beach, absolutely mental houses around the place. Millionaire row eat your heart out.
Carol had facebooked Marian Grasby, who he met previously in Melbourne as she lived around palm beach. She replied with ideas of restaurants for us! Carol was dead chuffed!
As we got to beach we seen a lot of film trucks located in the park. We were stopped by a flag man entering the park, was not sure why. As the traffic moved off again, we seen Ruby and Casey who were just filming a scene!!
We drove down towards diner, took a few pics and then headed back up towards filming area which happened to be near surf club. We walked around back of all the trucks and Carol got talking to an actor who used be in home and away years back, called Cane. (well actually she just screamed 'on my god it's Cane'). We took a quick pic, he was very nice and obliging! We asked him if it would be OK to take pic the rest of the actors, he said it wouldn't be a problem!
So Carol went over and approached Casey for a pic. At the same time, his on screen brother Heath came over and jumped in also. This was mental! They were such nice guys and asked us about our trip etc. Carol at this point was ecstatic!
We left the lads go eat before we went back to surf club for some pics and to run off.
We also got to see Dex but didn't bother him.
We parked in palm beach town trying to decide where to stay. Well, I did - don't think Carol was quite over her star struck self yet! We ended up staying about 15km from the beach in one of this BIG4 sites which was grand as we just wanted to shower and pack up our stuff before dropping van off tomorrow!!
Had a nice dinner out in Hogs Breath diner before retreating back to a bed! Finally, a normal bed tomorrow night!!
