Today I spent the day with Andrew (Australian) who I am sharing a dorm with and Anna (American) who is staying in another hostel. We got a taxi to the top of the mountain to visit the temple, it was such a long way up that my ears popped on the way. The temple itself was really amazing, unfortunately though it has continued to rain today, but not bad enough that you can't get out and about. We came down from the mountain early afternoon and found a place called the Birds Nest Cafe, it was a vegetarian restaurant, perfect for the girl that hates vegetables. I managed to find something on the menu and we had a really chilled out afternoon wasting away the hours over mango smoothies and a game of jenga!!
This evening was the Loy Krathong Light Festival main day as it is a full moon tonight. I headed to this with Andrew and we met up with Anna and a couple of her friends. I cannot do this festival justice by trying to describe it, it was like nothing I have seen before and was completely amazing. Thousands upon thousands of Chinese lanterns being lite and sent in to the sky throughout the night, flowers and candles being floated down the river, fireworks in the street (little bit dangerous), tea lights lined up outside every building. It was truly beautiful and something that you could not comprehend without seeing it. Even the photographs don't do it any justice. We ate from the street sellers at the night market and overall had a really amazing night.
This is a quick blog tonight as it's very late/early morning and tomorrow up early for a trip to Chiang Rai. I've also booked a bus to Pai on Saturday so will be moving on again.
