Kells travels
Today seemed like one of the longest drives ever... We drove for about 7 1/2 hours from Rawnsley park to Coober Pedy, so pleased I have my ipod or would be going nuts!! Enroute we stopped at Lake Dove for a quick leg stretch then it was back on the road. The whole way I was thinking this better be worth it !!! Anyways we finally got here about 3.30pm & oh my god I loved it here, it's such a cool place. Basically it's the Opal capital city of the world & everyone lives underground. again how cool is that. I went on a mining tour to see how they find the opals etc then got taken to an underground house where the guy lives & it was amazing. What they do is find a small place to live where they have previously found opals then as planning permission not hard to get underground they then cont to search for opals whist extending their homes. Whilst undergorund their homes are always approx 25 degrees & they hear no noise & have perfect nights sleep as so dark when the lights are out, one guy has a home with 44 rooms as keeps finding opals ha ha. Where we stayed was in an underground bunker & all u see around Coober pedy is sand mounds which means someone is living underneath. Whilst here we also went to an underground bar, Oh & another cool thing is when a resident is having a party they let off an explosion within their home so it sounds through to their neighbours to invite them along!! I soooooooooo want a house underground...
