Well well.....yes we did go out on Koh San Road and yes another hangover awaited us the next morning!!!! We decided to take a nice boat trip around the city to see the floating markets to get some fresh air into our lungs... We got a Tuk tuk to the boat and the driver advised us about prices etc which was nice as we didn't have a clue! We payed 900 baht and boarded the skinniest, most colourful long boat we had ever seen! It took us all around where the locals lived and really made me appreciate my house back home, the houses we saw couldn't really be described as houses-more like shacks without walls.. We also saw some pretty dench water lizards sunbathing on the way! About half way around we stopped off at the 'floating market HAA HAA!!!'. One man in a boat paddles his canoe up to us and tried to hard sell us some crappy magnets lol I bought 2 just to get rid of him and Orla accidentally forgot to give him a decorative elephant back! He didn't notice so we just laughed and carried on....I was lapping up the sun enjoying being on a boat but as soon as we got off at the other end orla ran to the nearest bin and let's just say was a little bit ill lol!
At 5 o'clock our taxi to Bangkok train station arrived and took us to get our sleeper train to Chiang Mai..We were an hour early for our train do just sat and people watched. At dead on 6pm the national anthem played and everyone who was sitting stood up and anyone walking stood still. It was the weirdest experience but we stood up and joined in even though we were clueless as to why... We later found out that every day in public places at 8am and 6pm this happens as a mark of respect to their King and country. They really really love him in Thailand!
We boarded our 2nd class sleeper train at 7:55 and got comfy ready to fall asleep! I had bottom bunk and slept at least 10 hours like a baby! Orla had top bunk and said it was awful lol! Luckily no one snored in our area! The toilets were just a hole in the ground which went straight onto the track so I didn't drink anything for the whole way lol!
We arrived at 10 in the morning and met our taxi driver, 2 Canadian guys, Brent and Wriley, were also booked into our taxi as they were going to the Baan Elephant Inn where we were staying... When we got to the guest house we checked in and also booked 1 day trekking (1300 Baht) to spice up our stay there.
After we had settled we went out on mopeds to try and find a waterfall .... We drove through the town (sketchy as hell) and toward where the locals told us the mountain with the waterfall was.... After about 45 mins of full speed pedding on the open road the decided it wasn't to be and turned around and visited temples instead haha! My bum was in bits! Seriously needed a cushion on them things! Then we got some food and headed back to the guest house which was easier said than done.. We got so lost and rocked up at the place at 8!
We went and met the girls from Bangkok that we met, at a bar called Zoeys. It was lively and we were soon sharing toxic buckets and dancing the night away... We also tried a super strong Thai energy drink that we had been told about ' M-150' but I don't think a bottle shared between 4 of us was ever going to do much lol! We got a Tuk Tuk together to McDonald's for some after party munch and then retired back to our guesthouse around 4:30! Good night was had by all !
We love Chiang Mai and both agreed that it was so much nicer than Bangkok..the air was cleaner, the sun was sunnier and the locals were way less pushy.
Hope you enjoyed the essay, missing you all loads so keep in touch!
Lots of love - Keli :) xxx
