Hi folks!
It's our first full day here in Bangkok.. The D&D hotel which we are staying in is part of the very lively Koh San Road. It's heaving with fellow travellers, buzzing bars and amazing street food. I literally just experienced my first serving of street food half an hour ago and went for abit of Patthai and chicken whilst poor Keli stashed away a Maccy D's, it was delicious. Our journey here took us all of about 13 hrs and we found both flights bearable after Keli's little mishap at the airport. Her not so top quality rucksack popped it zip! Oupp, haha!
Last night was spend sinking a couple of buckets full to the brim with a mix of vodka and red bull, we befriended a couple girls from Baisingstoke who were already with two guys from America and together we all ended up hanging out at couple of different bars until early hours of this morning. Whilst moving from one bar to the next, me and one of guys (Jerry) decided that we'd team up and tackle some of the more peculiar Thia cuisine.. Scorpion on a stick!! Oh my, it was like a bush tucker trial. Fair play to Jerry, he took the brunt of it by taking the first bite and eating the top half of the scorpion including pincers!! It tasted so bland and after the crunch through the crispy exterior I would describe the texture as being very similar to a date. Let's just say I defiantly won't be going back for seconds...
Today was a very productive one, we made use of our roof top pool that looks over the whole of Bangkok this morning. So refreshing and the view is ever so cool. We also made our first journey in one of the iconic Tuk Tuk's to the Thai tourist information centre. It's so easy to get mugged off here with regards to the way that some Tuk Tuk drivers take diversions to their friends shops and make you get out to look and potentially buy items for sale and also the price of the journey but this is something we are aware off and haven't been fooled yet. At the tourist centre we spoke to "Mr Joe" a travel advisor from Laos who spoke very fluent English, he sorted out a package for us that included:
-Taxi from our hotel to the place where we jump on a sleeper train to Chiang Mai on the 28th November (Friday evening)
-Our train ticket all the up to Chiang Mai (2nd class)
-Accomdation for 5 nights
-Visa for Vietnam
-Taxi to the Tiger + Monkey sanctuary on the the 30th November
-A day with the elephants (1st December)
-Slow boat to Laos which we will be taken by taxi from our hotel to the dock
This cost us a grand total of around £340 (17000 Baht) which we are pretty chuffed with!
The Thai people are so helpful and friendly, it's really welcoming and we are enjoying interacting with lots of people from all differant walks of life. We are loving it!!
Going to wrap things up as I need to go and get ready for another night out on the crazy Koh San Road, missing you all!
Peace and Love always, Orla x
