"Comedy of errors"? Well here we are still in Ha'apai. It's been a long four days. Starting with saturday and the possiblity
that our plane would not land here. Hind site 20/20 that would have been a good thing/ After our arrival in Ha'apai were were
whisked away in a slow moving rusty van down a long over grown road to meet up with a boat that would ferry us over to our next
place to stay. Well when we reached the end of the road and the begining of the Pacific ocean that greeted us with high winds
and large waves. With the spotty cell phone service we made heads or tails that the boat was not going to make it, thank God!
Later we learned that the boat had broken down in the high surf and was adrift for two hours until the Captain/Guy driving the
boat drifted to shore.Again we lucked out that we were not on the boat when that happened. SO we turned around and putt
putted back towards town to our "Guest House". Let me just say that if you don't want guest you should keep your house in the
condition that this place is in. We had one towel a dirty wash cloth and a used bar of soap. The shower curtain was moldy and
the bedsprings could be felt on my fresh sunburn and that were the good points.
I woke up in the middle of the night and quickly learned how to uncoil and light a mosquito coil. Anyway our guest house came
with breakfast. Not bad instant coffee (I like it as I only have it on vacation) some warm and fresh muffins and off the tree
bananas. We did have a great night meeting new friends at the local watering hole (Mariners Cafe). Off to enjoy our second sunday
in Tonga we listened to church singing and bells ringing and that is all that happens in Tonga on Sundays back down to Mariners Cafe
for night two. Meeting up again with our two new bestest friends we ate, drank and chatted each other up for a Joy and Keith record
of fives hours in a bar, whoops sorry Cafe on sundays. Everything after we left was a blurr and I hope Joy forgives Ella and I for
imbarrasing her. Well we woke up the next morning and with high expectations boarded the nice little yellow boat for our "transfer"
to Serenity Beach Resort. At first I thought the Boat guy was letting the boat warm up but after 25 minutes of idling our way to
Serenity Beach I guess he was just in no hurry as we wallowed accross the straights of Ha'apai. Finally we arrived just in time for
eating time. No not us the mosquito's again. Lucky again for us we had bought a large can of the now banned poison "DEET" the last
time we were in Vietnam. We were mosquioto free but both of us smelled like the engine conpartment of the rusty van that brought
us here.
so we spent the day checking out mosquito island, did some so so snorkeling and just layed around in the hammock. After a while
I noticed joy was gone didn't think much of it until she came rushing through yelling something about the plane being late tomorow.
Well that wasn't good as they had not told us this before and we had an international flight to catch. Needless to say it was
after six at night and there wasn't much we could do. Well now Joy is in a rotten mood and that makes for a long night unless you
bring some ambien with you like we do. So a couple of nite nite tablets and I'll see you in the morning, unless there is a midnight
raid from the mosquioto armed forces! Can't say we didn't have our defenses up four mosquioto coils burning,a mosquioto net over the
bed and DEET strayed everywhere BUt our hands and feet and they found our weaknesses. So we were both up at 12:30 straying DEET in each
others hair. Now its raining and wind is blowing and we are in a open what is meant to be a romantic Serenity bungalow has turned into
a back yard shed with no walls. Another couple sleeping pills to get us throught this as morning approaches and our boat lift to
back to civilization.We thought.
This morning another small yellow boat showed up we were wearing clean clothes for the two airplane rides we were going to be on
today. SO as we jumped into the boat we found out that it must have been used for fishing the night before as there was remains of
their catches here and there. As we approched the shore again I jumped out a littel too soon and found myself in thigh deep water wearing
knee lengh shorts, damn.Thats okay the rusty van was on the way and shortly we were wisked away to the airline office for the great
news that we would leave at 4:00pm to Tongatapu and then catch a flight to Aukland New Zealand and then we would catch our oringinal
flight in Fiji.Perfect so we spent the day watching the local ferry come in to port and the carnival the ensued as people waited
to see if their stuff had been on the ship. Three hours later the Ferry pulled up its ramp and it and it's passengers were on thier
way to Va'vua. Unlike us who walked back to the airline office to be told that todays flight was cancelled!Funny it's hard to shock us
now. We took it in stride, we know where to stay,we know where to get some food.We just don't know how to get off of this island!
Well tomorrow we are leaving one way or the other. If the plane is again cancelled we are going to take the ferry. SO stay tuned
and see if we make it to New Zealand,Fiji or return home anything is possible at this point. Till then cheers. Sorry my blogs are written like this but I need to figure out what setting I have changed,SORRY
