Seven days in? Or is it six? We lost one on the way so I guess it’s six. Day six finds us at Port Arthur Historical Prison site but first our plane ride. Arriving the night before Dulles airport we skipped the hassle of driving down for our early morning flight the day of. Personally I wouldn’t have cared but once there it was pretty easy just waking up and being in the airport in 20 minutes kind of relaxed. Knowing that anything could have happened ie accident, construction or cataclysmic event. Halfway to the airport I did realize my cell phone was at home in my desk and it was going to stay there as we weren’t turning around with rush hour quickly approaching.
Quick supper, quick sleep and a quick ride to the airport we were airborne by 10:30 am. Up Up and away we headed for Dubai, I never sleep, it’s 11:30am and they close the blinds automatically and want us to pretend it’s nighttime again. Even with our lay flats your not tricking me that it time for bed. Sure they did their best two hours in they served supper, gave us warm towels to “clean up” and lowered the cabin lights to a moonlit night dim. I was wide awake nearly the entire 13 hours. I laid there looking up at the ceiling Emirates even had what looked like stars on the ceiling. Slowly in the “morning” they raised the lights first a blue that faded to a morning sunrise before serving a breakfast of champions.
Emirates did a great job but fooling our circadian rhythm was just not working. It’s 11:30 pm at home and We want to go to bed! Never fear Joy is here and had booked us into the Dubai International Hotel. For $125 bucks we got met at our plane by a employee of the Hotel led through security line first and offered another cool face towel breakfast and supper that night. A huge room for our 18 hour layover and not to mention there was a massage chair in the room but a word of advise the chair automatically shuts off after 20 minutes for a reason don’t just keep sitting in it and resetting you will regret it the next morning, ouch.
Emirates up to their same tricks had us on a plane at 3:30 am to Melbourne. This time as soon as we took off they dropped the blinds as sunrise was an hour away. Still not much sleeping got done as we landed in Emirates ideal of morning in Melbourne also known as 11:30 pm local time. Joy up to her old tricks had a Holiday Inn booked on points all we had to do was met their bus. The bus finally found us 20 minutes later, we loaded up our luggage for the 33 second ride around the corner, it literally took longer to load and unload our luggage then drive there. We could have walked had they mentioned that anywhere on their website. Early morning again we woke to find our last flight to Tasmania a quick hour flight to end our 52 hour journey to Taz.
