On leaving Byron Bay we had a long drive, about 400kms, approximatley 6 hours and stopped at Port Macquarie overnight (Tuesday). The hotel we stayed at was built on the site of one of the original penal colony jails. The hotel was called the Glasshouse. Our room had a view of the harbour which was lovely.
It was time to move on again on Wednesday morning, a shorter drive this time to a place called Newcastle, would you believe. The surrounding suburbs had place names such as Wallsend, Jesmond, Wickham and Hexham. We had a walk along the foreshore. The surf was up as they say here and there were loads of people in the water. We didn't stay there as it is very industrial the main industry being coal. We moved on to the Hunter Valley which is a well known wine region in Australia and stayed there overnight in a lodge. Sad to say we didn't sample much of the wine.
Thursday morning saw us travelling to Sydney to stay overnight with Keith's cousin Colin and his wife Catherine and their two little girls Grace and Amelia.
