Christmas in Langkawi
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and a hard time to be away from family friends and tradition so we decided to make it special! We broke from budget and spent Christmas in a nice hotel - Langkawi Lagoon Resort. It had a pool and private beach and a room the size of a studio apartment. The flight from Penang was very quick and we were on the beautiful island of Langkawi in no time. We stocked up on the Christmas necessities at duty free wine, vodka and rum.
The island is beautiful and your surrounded by lovely mountains. The activities and tours were not cheap so we spent the majority of our time in the comfort of resort world.
On Christmas eve we walked around Cenang Beach (a backpacker vibe), lots of people on the beach, reggae bars, duty free shops, restaurants and souvenir shops. We decided to book a boat to Thailand rather than fly back to Penang. It would save time and money (picked up at 7:30 from our hotel to get a 9:30 ferry to Satun then a coach to Krabi). After a tikka and naan lunch we went back to the hotel. The hotel was putting on a big Christmas eve buffet with turkey but it was 170 ringgit so we passed and ate off the menu. A Malaysian Santa did come round and wish us a merry Christmas which was good times.
I was just as excited for Christmas day as any other year! We woke early and had a buffet breakfast, face timed families (was midnight at home) and opened presents that we had been carrying around with us since Philippines. Our little Christmas tree and decorations looked lovely in our hotel room.
We spent the morning watching Jack Frost (heartbreaking film) and the afternoon in the pool. We decided to spend some money on the Christmas BBQ buffet on the beach, which turned out to be very good, tasty satay, lobster, salmon and chicken. I was so full we spent the evening dying from being to full (just like any other Christmas).
It was wonderful having our own little bit of luxury for the Christmas season. Christmas at home will always win but we had a fantastic time and still had most of the traditions around us!
