S: After a quick train journey to Agra, followed by finding a hotel, we went and visited the one and only Taj Mahal. It was amazing but it felt very surreal to actually be there finally. To get there, we had our first cycle tuk-tuk. OMG the man was crazy. He kept hi-fiving James when he cracked jokes, in fairness he did make us laugh. Whilst in the Taj Mahal grounds we found ourselves a guide (we worked out, it was the best way to found out information about each building) and he ended up pushing people aside so we could have our own iconic picture infront of the Taj.
J: Sam's right, being at the Taj Mahal did feel bizarre. It's a massive place and so beautifully kept. The entire place was symmetrical and the fact it was all built 350 years ago to such quality was amazing. We really really enjoyed the visit.
S: We then went to the Agra Fort, and met our guide named Kamal. Now I know that I can talk but he talked for India. He was very knowledgeable and had both of us talking to each other via walls in separate rooms. Yes we probably did look a little bit special. The fort is only to be described as a red walled city built by the Mughals. It was massive and a great afternoon was spent exploring. James loved the cycle tuk-tuks, anything to save money. I on the other hand thought it was more like slave labour. We'd gone out for a meal, and got a cycle tuk-tuk back. I swear the man was nearly 70. I made James give him extra and get off early to save his legs.
J: Agra seams to be a place that's easy to get in but hard to get out.... When we tried to book a train from the station to move on out (as we have everywhere else) it wasn't possible for 5 days or 2 months! We had to use some dodgy tout that booked us a train for 4am the next day, but the ticket showed no coach or seat number..... he said they just hadn't been chosen yet and at the station we would find out at the booking office. We decided we didn't need a room for the night and would stay awake. We got a tuk-tuk to a place to eat recommended by the Lonely Planet book, which Sam found and really wanted to visit, we got there and it's closed.... when I looked again in the book it states in the first sentence that it's closed in June every year lol.
S: In my defence I did think it was May still...... yes I'm still blonde at heart lol. When we left for the fort earlier in the day, we had our backpacks with us; again we got a cycle tuk-tuk. Now James and I aren't exactly petite and with two massive bags. I felt soo sorry for the guy; again we stopped early and paid him extra. From now on we have to take normal tuk-tuks.
J: Sam just has a soft heart, the cycle tuk-tuk men are just earning their money.
