J: We arrive at Bonito and the first thing Sam forces me to do is go to the hospital as my foot was still hurting after a week. I still didn't want to go but she got her stern nurse voice on and threatened to call mum..... Simply put, tiny hospital, one doctor, no English, thank god for google translate & had my first ever IV. Found out that at some point I had broken my bone and now have a lump of bone rubbing against the flesh and caused the big toe joint to get inflamed!
S: so after a week of nagging and telling James that there was something wrong with his foot, he finally agreed to go to the hospital. All I'm going to say is, I was right lol. So James had been put on rest for a few days so that meant we had to take it easy. James wasn't over impressed about this, but we still managed to go to Rio De Prata. Which is a 3km trek through the jungle and then a 3km snorkel down the Olha D'Agua river. It was so clear, you could see for about 40 meters, it was beautiful. We saw massive Dourando and Pacu fish that were about a meter in length - they were very inquisitive lol.
J: it was beautiful drifting down on the gentle movement of the water. It was only about 2-4 meters deep and was all fed from a natural spring at the start which we also swam over. There was also another spring half was down which looked like the sand at the bottom was boiling. The water was apparently 24 degrees but we both felt a little chilly when the small stream opened up into the larger river, visibility dropped along with the temperature! Thankfully it was just 400 meters to the finish at that point. But it was a beautiful and tranquil day.
S: we had decided to leave the next day, as we couldn't do the main activity in Bonito, but first we thought we would head to Buraco das Araras. This is South America's biggest sink hole and it was home to about 250 Macaws. We had to walk to the edge of the sinkhole, to see the Macaws but we could hear them for miles around. There were lots of them flying around, they were majestical with their brightly coloured feathers. We were lucky to be early enough in the morning to see them fly, as we left they had all started to seek shade from the sun.
J: Then after a great lunch at a locals place sitting out on the road which had fantastic beans we were packing up to leave the town.
