Next stop is manta ray resort where we will spend Elliot's birthday, this ferries is considerably longer and we arrive just in time for lunch which is excellent no more buffet yay! And we check in to our tree house more sunbathing and relaxing before dinner and another dance show, surprisingly everyone is in bed by 10 on this island no wonder beachcomber is the party island. We don't mind the early night as we are told the manta swim can be anytime after 6am and we just have to listen for the manta drum which they beat when one is spotted. We wake up for breakfast, today is Elliot's birthday but we don't have any wifi so he can't speak to anyone which sucks! We go down to the beach just as a boat is pulling away, I tell Elliot not to worry, it can't be the manta boat because they haven't banged the drum, we ask some girls next to us and they say yes that is the manta boat, so of course Elliot goes into a strop as he's not going to see manta rays on his birthday (brat) So I go and see if I can sweet talk the guy into taking us out again when the group come back and he says that wasn't the manta boat but a fishing trip or something! So we have a happy boyfriend again he litterally sits at the waters edge in his snorkel waiting for this bloody drum and eventually we pile in to the boat with 20 other tourists in such of manta rays! As soon as we get to the channel we see 2 at the surface but as we jump in the are so much bigger than I expected manta rays can grow up to 8metres wide! The ones we saw were about3 or 4 metres and although they only eat plankton and small fish it's mouth is definatley big enough to fit me in it! The rays love the attention and swim underneath us doing about 3/4 barrel roles showing off both sides before plunging back down into the blue. Everytime one disappears the guides dive down to find the next one, we were only in the water around 15 minutes and saw around 7 rays at one point there were 3 all at once! I free dives down a few times to get closer but I absolutely suck at free diving and can only hold my breathe for about 10 seconds! After the excitement of the trip Elliot needs a lye down so we sunbathe a bit longer before lunch and then we get out kayaks and row across the water to another small island the current is pretty strong but we make it eventually we get the snorkels out just incase there's anything about and are amazed to see a beautiful shallow reef with the best visibility we've had yet! Just goes to show some of the places you find on your own that aren't touristy are sometimes the best! Dinner that night is a 4 course meal we order the ribs and sweet potato which apparently in fiji means beef and mash but whatever it was still nice! While Elliot was in the bathroom I got the singers to sing happy birthday to him at desert, which he looked especially awkward through but loved, the cheeky b******s did charge me for a cake I didn't even ask for though!
