Lake Titikaka was beauuutiful...we stayed with a peruvian family on one of the islands for the night. Mine and Sul´s nuevo madre was called ewlalia, she took us back to her house (pretty much a courtyard!) and showed us to our room. It was more like a barn, there was no carpet, no plastered walls, and the beds were made out of reeds!! In between our beds was a tiny table with 2 little chairs facing the door, where we were fetched some soup and then rice and vegetables (which I felt obliged to eat despite not being hungry, LATER SUFFERING THE CONSEQUENCES...)! There were 4 children (as well as the pet donkey) and of the boys attempted to teach us a card game. None of the family spoke any english so this proved quite difficult! After tea we got dressed up in traditional peruvian clothes then went to a small fiesta where we met the rest of our group. The locals put in a bit of a show for us then we all got up and joined in with the dancing! It was nice to experience Peru completely away from any other tourists.
The next day we went to the Uros Islands, which are floating islands on lake titikaka which are made out of reeds. Everything on the islands were also made out of reeds, including the houses, boats, and schools. So amazing that people still live like this when the reason it all started was to escape from the incas!
Tomorrow we´re saying adios to Peru and heading to La Paz in Bolivia. I think there´s more Independence Day celebrations when we´re there so should be exciting!!! So long Peruuuu
