Just got back from the jungle!! Been mixing it up with the creepy crawlies for the last 2 nights! We met our tour guide, Johnny, at Puerto Maldonado airport and we set off for what seemed like hours along a bumby road deeper and deeper into the Amazon. We then got a motorized canoe for another 2 hours and we finally arrived at our lodge! We were welcomed by the french owner and her monkey, who gave us all passion fruit juice. It was beautiful, but HUMID!! The temperature was well into the 80s. On the first night we went on a night walk. Saw quite a few creepy crawlies, and Johnny took us to see where ´the little chicken´lived...the little chicken was in fact a tarantula, scary!!
The next day we went on a walk to a river. The lodge prepared packed lunches for us wrapped up in a banana leaf! We saw loads of different birds, butterflies, a couple of wild pigs, and some baby ´little chickens´, haha. I also nominated myself to get stung by a fire ant which killed! We went on another canoe when we got to the river, then headed back for a siesta before tea. Once we´d eaten we went on a cayman (a bit like crocodiles) hunt IN THE DARK. We got in a boat and headed off down the river with no lights on whatsoever. We spotted a couple but as soon as the guide shined a light at them they´d run back into the water. Then all of a sudden the driver must have spotted one and he dived in and caught it, madness!!! He brought it back on the boat for us to see. Grant and Rich were the only 2 who dared hold it though! Back at the lodge there were dancers from Puerto Maldonado, a few of the group joined in with their native dancing which was hillarious!
Getting a bus to Puno tomorrow, tonight´s our last night in Cusco so we´re all going for a meal and mojito´s! Adios for now xx
