The adventure starts in Hong Kong.....we flew from Heathrow on 26th September and arrived in Hong Kong early morning on 27th after a 12 hour flight....which seems like a doddle now when i compare it to the travelling i have done in the last week!!
Arrived at the Chung King Mansions after a bus journey from the airport...the name definately doesn't have any resemblance to the rooms!!!! Looking back now the rooms were ok, very clean and seemed safe enough...but there was 4 of us crammed in the same tiny room for a week!!! We managed ok though. To get to our rooms we had to walk through an arcade of shops...most of them selling fake ipods, sim cards and other doggy goods...the arcade was a bit scary to walk through, with most workers trying to sell you something everytime you walked through.
Our second day we went exploring....our first stop was to find the chinese embassy to buy our visas to go through China on the next part of our travels...what a hassle....put it this way i dont think we were meant to go into the embassy to get visas...the armed guards on the gates wouldnt even answer Beths question, just told us not to step any further...we were scared and walked off!!! haha! After that we kinda gave up on that idea and went on our next venture to the Victoria peak.....we cought the Peak Trams which took us up through the mountains of Hong Kong...at the top we ventured and the summit of the peak...where the view of Hong Kong was amazing.
The 3rd day we went to Lantau Island to see a "big budda" and ride the highest sky ride ever!!!! The budda has the title of "the worlds largest, seated, outdoor, bronzed budda"....this can be seen on the photos when i eventually get them on here!!!
Not long after arriving in Hong Kong we realised that if we were to go out for drinks at night it would become far too expensive...as the prices were similar to what it is at home...that night we meet a few people in our hostel and ventred to the night markets with them, as this is where to find the cheap food and drinks...it was nothing special but the food was nice and the drinks really cheap...i even resorted to drinking lager...i think its gonna be the way forward from now on!!!! when ordering food there are no knifes and forks provided...just chop sticks!!! Which was good in a way because its forced me to learn how to use them which i never thought i would!!!!
Just down the road from our hostels was a public indoor/outdoor pool....as the weather was nice we spent the next few days there chilling out and not trying to spend too much money.
After staying a week in Hong Kong we set off for our next destination which was Hanoi (Vietnam).....i didn't realise how hard this was going to be. The sum it up it was an exciting, crazy and scary 24 hour journey which took us on 6 different forms of transport through China and walking accross the boarder through boarder control into vietnam....it was really worth it for the experience and the sights we've seen but we were all glad once we arrived at a hotel in Hanoi!!
Photos to be added soon...watch this space
