After one last great breakfast at La Piccola Locanda this morning, we loaded up our packs and headed out to our new hostel - a whole 20 steps away! We are staying tonight at Hostal Resbalosa, where Burrill and Courtney have been stationed all week, to save some money. It's great to be in the same wonderful neighbourhood and we even have our own bathroom here!
Once we were all settled in, we headed out into the city, with about an hour to go before meeting up for lunch. We ended up spending that time just sitting on the steps in the Plaza - so much was going on it ended up being very entertaining!
The first of our visitors was a local boy trying to sell us little knit finger puppets. While he was sitting with us, a random mini-parade came through the plaza. There were people on stilts in native Peruvian clothes, there was a truck with a full band playing in the back, and a truck with people handing out bagels and rolls. It was a promotion for this bread company! Our young friend quickly ran off to get himself a bun for lunch.
We were also approached by a group of students on a school trip from Lima. They were very interested to talk to us and see where we were from and what we were doing in Peru. They liked Mark's curly hair and my blue eyes!! They were really friendly and even brought their teacher over to meet us! (They also thought it was quite funny to promote us having ten babies, which they mentioned many times.)
It was a fun way to pass the time, in addition to watching all the people wander through the square, and all the dogs roaming around.
After lunch with Burrill and Courtney, we all headed to the bus terminal to buy our tickets for Sunday to Puno. We got caught in the rain quite a few times on the trek - definitely the rainiest day we've seen. We also wandered into what I would consider the "real" Cuzco and had some freshly made donuts, very tasty.
We had dinner at a British Pub. It was alright, I did have some guacamole, but would've prefered Peruvian food. One interesting part of the meal was the nachos we ordered as an appetizer - instead of nacho chips they were made with Doritos!!!!
Oh yeah, and as a follow-up to yesterday, Mark bought an alpaca knit tuque, and we found out the cheese we've been eating with breakfast every day and on any sandwiches is actually alpaca cheese! So I guess I also think they are good to eat, and Mark thinks they're good to wear.
Tomorrow at 9 we head towards Aguas Calientes and on to Machu Picchu Saturday!
