So we have finally discovered how the 'cow system' works. On the surface it appears that the cows wander randomly around the streets. This, it turns out is not the case. All cows are sacred so everyone looks after them. Each morning, people have the shared responsibilty for feeding the nearest cow 2 chapatis and some grass. If the cows don't belong to them, it doesn't matter. If a cow gets lost, it is taken to a designated 'cow place' where its owner can find it. A bit like the information stand at Silverburn. People also put small change into numerous boxes around the city which goes directly to providing for the cows. Brilliant.
Yesterday Rufus and I left the girls at Sambhali Trust sewing circle for an hour and went to check out KUBES lounge bar, which is directly behind our do-gooder charity based guest house and taunts us daily with its giant Kingfisher neon sign. KUBES turns out to be a roof top bar/club, but is indoors and is pitch black, apparently to create some 'ambience' - the favourite word of our fellow Indians. We tried to suggest there was more ambience on the palm tree wicker furniture roof terrace but apparently not. The bar was so dark I had to actually go back outside to read the menu. The plus point was severe air conditioning, Indian MTV and a place to pretend we were having some time alone as we couldn't actually see each other.
Our Indian host is becoming more flamboyant by the minute. Yesterday he introduced his special friend, saying 'we have a word for special male friend in Hindi, it's my Jeesa'. I felt like saying, yeah we have a word for it in Scotland too mate. He then referred to an American student by the term 'hey girlfrend'. Gay as get out!
