We've been in Namibia for over a month now and it is the most beautiful country - endless deserts, amazing sand dunes, rivers, canyons - just so much to see and do!
We started our time in Namibia doing a 2 day canoeing trip along the orange river and camping out overnight on the river, which was beautiful - we didn't see another soul for those 2 days. We then headed up to fish river canyon which is comparable to the grand canyon apparently. We also been to the Sossuvlei sand dunes in the desert for sunrise which was probably the highlight of the trip for me so far - it was the mose beautiful scene - these sand dunes turning from a sort of dull brown colour to a striking red as the sun rises over them, contrasted against pure white salt pans! We had a slight problem here however - the gates for the park opened at 5.30am, so we got up at 5am and arrived at the ates bang on time. No one came to open them until an hour later though - which we just put down to being the infamous "african time". It was only that evening when we arrived at a campsite and saw our first clock in a week that we realised we had forgotten to put our watch back at the border and had been working an hour ahead of oursleves for days! We'd actually woken up at 4am that morning! It just does emphasize how little time means out here - we get up when the sun rises, go to bed when it is dark, eat when we are hungary. We've been in bed by about 9pm every night and sleeping for 10 or 11 hours every night easily!
We've been in a place called Swakopmund for the past couple of days which is on the Skeleton coast and is the adventure capital of Namibia. Jamie did a skydive (I'm saving myself for a bungee over Vic Falls!) and we've met loads of really nice people, had a night out, and just recharged our batteries really ready for the next step of the journey. Unfortunately Jamie got dfone over by a couple of con artists who managed to steal his credit card at an atm machine, but it wasn't a mugging or anything and we cancelled the card before they could get any money so no harm done, just inconvenient really. We're going to make our way up to Etosha national park over the next few days and spend 2 ore 3 days there before heading over to Botswana.
We really are having the most amazing time - so far this trip has outone my highest expectations, and we're only 2 weeks in! Hope everything is going ok in the UK and we miss you all. Take care Kxx
