Another amazing week. Mission beach was really nice. Ridiculously quiet but nice for a few nights. Got chucked out of the pub at 9.30 here. Think she might of closed up early because we didn't call a pint of beer the right thing. It is pretty much the same measurement as in England but it is called a scooner and apparently it is not a bottle of beer but something else. She got very snappy anyway by the fact that we didn't know this and then insulted where we lived even though i don't actually think she asked us. Anyway we decided to avoid the pub the next night and get some beers and drink them on the beach but when we got to the beer off at 8.10pm it was closed so we went on the beach beerless and looked at the most amazing moon you have ever seen. Obviously the same moon everyone sees but it looked amazing. So amazing that me and Toyah came the closest we have ever come to getting philosophical, didn't last too long though! Went for lots of walks along the beach and one up this hill where we saw a spikey something or other ant eater. The locals tell it is rare to see so very impressed about that. After Mission Beach we headed to place called Magnetic Island. Such a nice Island and we stayed in the nicest accomodation. It was next to a Koala Park and had loads of wildlife and you stayed in these cute little cabins, was great. We were lucky because we were going to stay in another part of the island but for some reason we walked on the local bus when we got off the ferry to a different part of the island and the bus driver happened to stop at this accomodation so we got off and it was great. We had a walk into the village which consisted of a shop, a takeaway and a pub. Luckily we bumped into a girl we met in Singapore who had met some locals who were going to watch toad racing. Was really funny. People got really into it betting on the toads and stuff, especially this lad from Canada who was completely off his face and was threatened with being chucked out. They take there toad racing very seriously over on Magnetic Island and didn't appreciate him mocking the event. Was really good night. The next day we went for a bush walk. Like idiots we set off at midday into the bush so there was no shade anywhere. It took us about an hour to walk 800m at one point although i'm sure it was further and it was uphill and rocky!! Toyah also spotted a Koala which was cool because not seen one of those in the wild yet and apparently according to a guy from Sydney most people haven't seen one in wild so that made us feel even better. That night was even better than night before - cononut bowling but it was being filmed for tv so some time ion the new year mine and Toyah's mugs should appear across your screens! The guy who won the tv thing ' the best job in the world,' who is caretaker of an island in the Whitsunday's was staying there hence the cameras. The brits won so we got a free crate of beer. The guy they were filming was british so he won beer too but me and Toyah being clever and tight stuck around and he gave us his too. Ended up staying up with some locals who were hilaroius and camera crew until the bar turned the lights off. Such good night. The next day we decided to walk to some coves that had been recommended. The camera man offered us a lift but we decided we wanted an adventure so we set off and got as far as the shop where we met a local we had been drinking with who when we said we were walking to these coves pulled a face as if to say you'll never make it. The shopkeeper overheard and asked us if we had plenty of water and then another local told us how to get there. We were starting to think we should have accepted the lift or atleast go and change out of our flip flops! We were comforted by the fact that the whole the whole village plus the tv crew knew where we were if we did come into danger. It was actually the easiest walk we had done and led to some amazing beaches. Even though Magnetic Island was quiet it was so fun, loved it. We moved onto Townsville then which we had heard bad things about but actually quite liked it. Wasn't anything exciting but nice enough. Plus we got there on a Saturday so had a proper night out in a big town. Was like a night out in Donny, was great. Met so many people. Managed to attract the village idiot and his mate so quickly left that pub but then Toyah attracted a local who looked like Justin Timberlake and all his friends were dead friendly and showed us a great night in Townsville. There was even one who was the most stereotypical Ozzy you could meet, called Mick, priceless. Went to a club that was like Trilogy, full of young people and about a million fights haha but really good anyway. Next day rather than nurse hangovers we set off on another bushwalk, again at midday but this one was challenging. We made it though and spent afternoon on beach watching tortoises in the sea. Arrived ion Airlie Beach today which seems really cool and booked to go sailing round the Whitsunday Islands for 2 nights on Wednesday. So excited. Then next week we have booked to go to Fraser Island which is a big sand island. We meet our group the day before, get given a tent and a 4wd and take off for 3days so excited. It is going to be the best week ever, although this one has been pretty amazing too.xxxx
