Spanish Adventures
From Florence we took a train to Naples. We hadn't bought tickets ahead of time because we weren't really sure what time we would be leaving, and when we got there no seats were left in the economy section. We noticed though that there was something where you bought four tickets together and they were about the same price as we expected for the economy tickets. Turns out we basically bought a little room thing in first class. It was super cool and they even had a lady who came and brought us drinks and food! You could say we were pretty happy with the surprise.
Once we got to Naple we made our way to the metro type train (even though it's not underground) and rode that for about an hour and a half until we we got to Sorento. When we finally got there we picked up tickets for the bus that would take us to Positano. Now by this point we had been traveling for many hours, were starving, and our bus was no where to be seen. We waited for about 45 minutes asking the guy who was there about the bus and he was kind of just like "Well I'm not really sure when it'll be here". At this point we admitted defeat and decided to get a cab, which we ended up sharing with two Canadian women who were in the same boat as us. That was really helpful in terms of price too because it was about an hour away. Once we got there we checked into our room and headed to dinner (finally) which was really good.
The next day one of my friends and I got up kind of early and went for a walk. It was cold and rainy so it wasn't great beach weather (which is what we had planned to do for the day). I can tell you though I worked up a good sweat going back up to our apartment. We decided that instead of doing a beach day, we would go to Pompeii. I'll put that in another post because it was really really cool.
The day after Pompeii we were all glad for the decision we made because the weather was absolutely beautiful. We got some towel fro the front desk and ended up spending the entire day just hanging out on the beach. Not too much to write about such a lazy day.
The following day two of my friends started their trek back to Rome because their flight was a day earlier than hours. After we sent them off on the bus back to Sorento, Jess and I decided to walk around. We stopped for a quick lunch where I had a really great panini and then decided to take a water taxi to Amalfi, which is a couple of towns over. It was a little chilly when we started out but luckily for us the weather decided to cooperate and by the time we got there the sun was shining. Amalfi was really similar to Positano except it had a lot more shopping and restaurants and things like that where Positano was more quiet. After walking around for a bit we caught the taxi back - it was really nice and relaxing just looking at the mountains.
When we got back we headed up to a dinner spot that was reccomended to us. I decided to spluge and get linguine with shrimp. Little did I know they were going to make me work for my dinner because the shrimp came out completely unpeeled. In the end though it was worth it because it was delicious!
Sunday we woke up and started our trek back to Rome (which included a bus, a metro, a train and a taxi). We were nervous about this long series of travel components because since it was Easter Sunday, public transportation service was limited. Luckily though we made it where we needed to be without any problems and minimal stress.
Overall this trip to Italy was absolutely amazing. There was so much history and beauty and of course the food! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to go on such a great trip, especially since I learned a lot about public transportation!
