Well just arrived in Hue so not much to say about it yet, thought i would fill you in on what we have been up to since Ho Chi Minh though.
Travelling north from Ho Chi Minh we had a 12 hour bus journey to Nha Trang, a coastal town. The overnight buses are not the most comfortable mode of transport and unfortunately this time i ended up on the back seat which does not go back, needless to say i got hardly any sleep that night, although the time passed quicker thanks to the aussies in the seat next to me - hello to Alisha and Boyd if you're reading this! Elliot ended up sitting a few seats further forward, a damn sight better deal if you ask me, next to some Vietnamese girl, our friend Kirstine pointed out to me in the morning that they had both fallen asleep and ended up spooning! How sweet...she looked very embaressed on waking up and realising, quickly making herself busy combing her hair and looking out the window! One romance thats not going any further.
Nha Trang is a very pleasant, quite touristy seaside resort, we only spent one full day there and spent that on a boat trip tour of the islands, more of a booze cruise than anything else it was a lot of fun, the performance from the Vietnamese guys with their instruments was especially memorable, as was the floating bar in the ocean with red wine and pineapple flowing freely. I managed to find myself a jelly fish to get stung by but was nothing serious, more painful really was having my arm numbed by the guy on the boat when i showed him! We also both got a little sunburned as the breeze made it feel a lot cooler than it was. Day was good though and we saw some amazing fish in an aquarium at the end of the trip.
That night we boarded another bus to Hoi An - not as bad as the first and i got a lot more sleep - the destinations are always worth the bother anyway. Hoi An is a charming little town not far from the sea. It is crammed full of tailors offering up custom made clothes for amazingly cheap prices, i had to seriously restrain myself, would be easy to go mad, however there is not much room in my rucksack so avoided rinsing my dollars! The scottish girls on their way home did pretty well though and I will definitely be returning for a holiday, they also sell some beautiful ceramics and wood handicrafts along with fine silk. We went on a day trip to My Son but not much needs to be said about that really, pales in comparison to Angkor, we admit is hard to impress after that but wasn't really worth the entrance fee. Is a site of some of the Cham temples but they have been left for years and there is not a great deal more than a few buildings and heaps of stones. Best memory from there was sitting by the river drinking the beer hoi for 300vnd a glass - about 10 pence!!
And so we have arrived in Hue, planning to see some sites tomorrow so will write when we have done so. Thanks for the messages and emails, is much appreciated, keep them coming!
