On Wednesday James and I went to the Science and Technology museum which was really interactive and modern. It was full of Chinese primary school children which was lovely to see... Apparently rock paper scissors is a universal game! We walked around animal world, which was so well made it almost felt like we were in a safari?! It really put our science museum to shame. :o/ We then went to haggle at the AP market which is like a maze! Every other shop looks the same, I even managed to get some 'real' converse trainers for £8. Also Mum I bought you one of those weird Chinese shirts!! :o) we then went for dinner followed by a boat cruise along the Haungpo River at night, the city was so well lit up and really looked beautiful.
Today (Thursday) we went to the Jade Buddha temple. It is a little bit out of town and was really interesting to see how the Chinese really live... Hanging washing on sticks out of the window, playing cards, cooking and welding all on the same pavement. The Jade Buddha temple was cool to see, a 2m tall Buddha made out of Jade. We also rubbed the belly of a ft happy Buddha, for good luck??
We took the very modern subway to Yuyuan Gardens and Bizzare, which was by far the highlight of my trip to Shanghai so far. The photos we took really don't show the full beauty of the place. It had lots of old classic back streets and lots of shops and a beautiful rockery gardens. They are also getting ready for Chinese new year here so everywhere is putting up even more lanterns, dragons etc.
Last but certainly not least we visited the Shanghai World Financial Towers (3rd tallest building in the world). We went to the 100th (top) floor observation deck where they had a 'skywalk', a glass floor viewing gallery to see the whole of Shanghai. The view really was breathtaking and also nerve racking for me!! Most people know that I don't even walk over the glass floors at Bluewater, let alone a glass floor 500m high!! I will post some of the photos that we took.
We finished the evening with a steak and chips dinner, a beer and football for James.. He was in his element! :o) all in all one amazing day!!! Now for the next leg of out journey, flying to Hongkong tomorrow (Friday). Miss you all! xxx

Roy & Monica Hi Katie & James we hope you are having a wonderful and seeing some amazing sights
Rav The market is great, isn't it? If you ask for something that they don't have, they'll dash out and come back with it in a few minutes. Your description of Beijing and Shanghai is exactly as I would have written it myself. Have a wonderful time!
