Katie's Travels in Italia
Wow. I can't believe I'm finally in Rome. I'm so excited. I didn't like Florence. Too many tourists, not enough Italians.
Rome is amazing. The first thing we saw on the bus coming into Rome though were prostitutes. Haha. But then we got to the city center and it is incredible. I've walked around a few times at night and it is just amazing. I don't even know where to begin.
I live in an apartment in Trastevere, the oldest part of Rome. I live up on a hill, and it's pretty quiet. My apartment is really cute. I'll take pictures and post them. My landlord is the cutest/sweetest thing ever. She doesn't speak english, so my roommates relyed on me. And that wasn't a good idea. Her husband helped us with all of our luggage up to our apartment. And then he went and got us cokes, chips, and water. Rita then took us around Trastevere and showed us all the places we should go to or would need to go to.
I finally got to see Rachel! Friday night we went to her favorite restaurant, Spirito di Vino. It was so good. I had eggplant rolls with a filling of zucchini and goat cheese. Then I had pork that was so tender you could cut it with your fork. And I made a new Italian friend, Francesco. He called me fiesty. Haha.
Saturday I wandered around Rome. I went to Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori, Piazza Farnese, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. Gorgeous.
Sunday I went to mass with one of my favorite people in the program, Katie. Mass was in Italian, but it was so different from mass in the States. The organ actually sounded good. But the church was built over a thousand years ago. It was great. And I only had to walk 8 minutes to get there.
Then I went shopping with Rachel. Bought a new pair of shoes because the cobblestones not only do a number on your feet, but also on your shoes. They are aasics and super cute.
Then I went over to Katie's apartment. She lives like 10 minutes from me in Trastevere. We cooked dinner...spaghetti with spicy tomato sauce, roasted potatoes, and steak. Then we walked up to the Vatican to meet Dustin for gelato. I can't wait to see the Vatican during the day.
So I need to go an figure out how to get to school. In the rain. Boo. But I'm in Rome!
Miss you all!
