After 10 days here, I could happily live in Sudan if it wasn't for the military coup, sharia law and poor wifi. I'm now back in Khartoum for a couple of days after having an amazing time travelling around the country looking at pyramids, desert, markets and painted tombs. My Arabic is going well, I now know pretty much all the parts of the human body, clothes and a lot of animals by going through their noises.
We got to back to Khartoum yesterday- there was another demonstration, 15 people killed this time. Everyone is against the coup, even a lot of the army so maybe there'll be another one soon.
Some interesting facts about Sudan - all the cars are falling apart and break down every 5 minutes which is a bit of a nuisance when you're miles from anywhere. If you buy a car in Sudan, you have to pay the Government the same that you paid for it, so people only buy old bangers.
There are lots of bats here and I'm really annoyed I didn't bring my bat detector.
The streets in the towns have ice shops where huge blocks are carried from a container and hacked up on a table in the street with a little axe and given to passing cars.
The hieroglyphs are amazing - you wander down into a little tomb and find painted stars, baboons, owls, snakes with ears and then bats swirl over your head 😍.
Sudan has gold mines in the north, gas in the west, oil in the east and uranium in the south.
The coffee is at last drinkable here - stalls sell it flavoured with crushed cardamom and 6 sugars 😋.
The people are the loveliest you will ever meet.
