A couple of days were spent getting to Mount Manganui - first stop was Napier where we stayed in an old converted prison. Not much to write about, it was not the best and had showers where everyone could see your head and legs. Very uncivilised. We also stopped off to go zorbing. Now this X-treme activity we definitely knew we were not insured for. So of course, we had to do it to find out what the fuss was about. Zorbing is where you jump into a giant inflatable hamster-like ball, which is then filled with water, and you are then pushed down a hill on a zig zag course. And what fun it was! Sloshing about, being thrown all over the place. At the end, you are totally disorientated and fall out with all of the water. Rather like a calf being born. It was an absolute hoot. Despite a contact lens becoming dislodged, it was also totally safe. So we get to Mount Manganui, or Mongygoogly as we call it as we can't pronounce it. It is a great beachside resort and we also had fab weather so we tried to get back some of the tan we have lost since South America. Relaxing days at hotwater pools and by the beach were followed by great nights out. We entered a quiz with two Welsh girls 'Team Wanglish' and actually came joint 3rd. We lost the tiebreaker so we were out of the prize line up. However, and I'm not sure how this happened (maybe it was the fact we promised to enter the jelly wrestling competition the following night), but the bar manager gave us a $50 bar tab, equivalent to 2nd prize. So the following night, we tootled along, spent the tab and failed to partake in jelly wrestling. Bar manager felt like a sucker, fallen for our charms hook, line and sinker! Some kareoki later and a viewing of Borat (how funny is that by the way?!) and we left Mount Manganui for another seaside resort, Paihia. Hope you are all well, missing you as ever, Katherine xxxx
