Buenos Aires has certainly lived up to all expectations! We have spent a week here now and have loved every minute.
Since we have been here we have been on a city tour to see the major sites, including the colourful La Boca district where people dance in the street. We have gone on a tour of the opera house, seen the Evita museum, a huge grave yard where she is buried and been to a zoo (where I saw my first real life polar bear).
A lot of our time has been spent generally milling about the different districts, stopping for a drink here, a bite to eat there as that is all people seem to do here. It´s great!
We went to a tango show which was fantastic. I spent all evening pratising my ´pick me! pick me!´ face ready for the audience participation section at the end. Not needed. Was first up, probably to do with my prime seating position and also blonde hair gets you a long way in South America! It was all very sexy until my partner told me off as I was apparently trying to lead him! We have subsequently seen him on postcards dotted around the city, so I have had my first encounter with a minor celebrity too!
I know everyone says this, but we really have had the best steak ever. It was on of those ´this is not just an ordinary steak´marks and spencers moments. Steak and all the trimmings with wine cost us 10 pounds each. We also got free champagne as the waiter took a bit of a shine to us. We have worked out that getting out the phase book, complimenting them and pronouncing it as badly as possible gets you a long way too!
Everything is so cheap over here, food, clothes, wine, even the tube costs only 25p. However, budget and backpack restraints are keeping us in check! Not great for the waist line though - the ´oh let´s´philosophy seems to prevail.
So everything sounds so rosy? Not so. We left the comfort of our hotel to experience our first hostel ever. Six in a room (all off our tour, I can cope with that), a coat hanger for a door handle and my god, when I saw the bathroom and showers I almost booked a flight back home. Then there were the guests. Grubby and noisy. Looked like they may be vegans or similar, you know the sort. But for 4 pounds a night we couldn´t really complain. The moral of the story? You do really get what you pay for. So we hotfooted it to an amazing hostel, got a twin room and best of all, it serves tea and toast for breakfast. All for 7 pounds 50p a night. Lovely!
I have managed to put some pictures online now, just a small selection as I have over 400 which I won´t bore you with - until I get home!
So, with Argentina almost done, our journey will take us to Easter Island next...
Thanks for all the messages, really enjoying the message board, keep them coming!!!
Hope everyone is healthy and well, missing you all,
