Kate & Rob's Adventure
Bula!
We are in Fiji, well we have actually left but i am going to tell you all about it. Fiji is a beautiful place and although it is quite small in size there is loads to do. We opted to let someone else take care of the travel arrangments and scedule of this part of the trip and signed up for an all inclusive package around the islands to the west of the mainland - the trip was called 'Tropical Awegasm'!
Just half an hour from Denarau on the mainland we had sand between our toes, a cold drink in hand at the South Sea Island. This Island was tiny, you could walk around it in 5 minutes and all there was to do was read, snorkel and sunbath - needless to say we got straight in to the Fiji lifestyle and just did nothing to pass the day. During our 3 days on the island we went on a boat ride to see the Castaway Island - where Tom Hanks filmed and went to visit a local visit - it was good to see the way of life of the locals and good to explore an untouched island.
Our next island was Kuata, this was a little further up north and we had our own ensuite Bure - this was rare and although the electrics only came on when dark we got by fine. During our stay here we went for a sunrise summit walk/hike and we spent alot of time snorkling in a sheltered cove at the back of the island.
Matacawalevu was our next island, the resort was called Long beach and it was huge - stretching as far as your eyes could see, and when you got to the end it went on further around the corner. This resort was very small, only 16 people stayed at any one time and it gave a friendly atmosphere and gave us chance to meet the locals and see how they lived.
Nanuya Lailai was the next island we hopped onto, we got around all the islands by a ferry boat which did a loop everyday and you hopped on and off accordingly. This island's resort was called 'Sunrise' and as soon as the sun came up you were up! On the other side of the island was the Blue Lagoon - used for many films but mainly made famous by Brooke Shields. The beach here was beautiful and oposite the bay laid the most expensive resort in Fiji - where Britney Spears statyed for her honeymoon just weeks before we got there. It was hard to belive that such an expensive resort was sharing the same views as we were. Whilst we were at this resort we went on a trip to the Sawailau Caves, apparently if you havent been here then you cant say you have been to the 'Yasawas Islands'. The caves were great, you swam into a large open cave and then dived down into hidden caverns - when you came up it was pitch black but you were in another cave. The network of caves stretched for some 6 miles but we only explored one small section. It was a great experience and something we wont forget, i have some pictures but am not sure how well they will come out - watch this space.
Our last Island was Naviti, this was a new resort which has only been around for some 6 months. This was the most Westernised resort we had stayed at and it was nice to get real bathrooms and hot and cold water. The beach here was gorgeous and we spent alot of time relaxing and taking in as much of Fiji as we could. We went for a few dives whilst at the resort and also swam with Manta Rays, these were giants of the sea (some 6m across) but they glided through the water and looked so graceful. At the end of our stay here we went back to the mainland and straight to the airport to head back to America and LA.
During our stay in Fiji we met lots of people, from all over the world. We had a great time getting to know them all and sharing all our experiences, its hard to believe all we have been through over the past few months!
Fiji is a great relaxing location, everything is run on Fiji time - meaning it can be 30 minuites early or 30 minutes late, anywhere around there will be enough for the locals. Its amazing how quickly you get used to the way of life and the hours, days and time become insignificant. We are definately glad we left this until the last part of our trip and it was a great end to travelling the unfamiliar parts of the world.
We head to the familiar land of America next and although we have almost finished there will still be some updates until i get back home.
We were thinking of you all whilst in Fiji - really we were and we Love you all
