A combination of jet lag and sensory overload had me wide awake at 3.30am and am now cross eyed with tiredness and walk like a reeling drunk as we await 8am pick up....
....The Grand Palace was spectacular, gold and coloured glass, mirrored and brightly tiled towers, Chinese style figures and a small solid jade buddha who is given gifts of water, sticky rice, eggs, fish and lotus flowers. The sun is out and it is really hot now, 36 but feels like 44 they say but thankfully we were finished the tour by 10 as the crowds arrived and the heat was draining.
The traffic is intense and there seem to be no rules. I am amazed we havent knocked a motorcyclist or pedestrian over. Last night we discovered on our walk that traffic doesnt stop for zebra crossings. Even when the light was red and we had a green man happily flashing away the seconds to the light change, at night the cars just kept coming at us.
We are going to venture out for a snack lunch and have to pack to go to the River Kwai tomorrow and 2 nights in a luxury tent, whatever that is, but it has aircon. Martin refused to stay on the alternative, a raft with no electricity in a sleeping bag on the floor. Can't think why.
.....ok so lunch snack turned into sweet and sour fish and stir fried veg and rice, which we didnt order but seemed to come with it. Last week they reported that research shows we would all live longer if we only ate every other day, but honestly what would be the point?
