We only had 2 and a half days in Boston and sadly we lost the first afternoon due to a faulty smoke alarm in the loo of the 747 which kept us on the tarmac for 4 hrs with only a small cup of water and tiny bag of pretzels. Martin of course slept thru it. We took off 3 and a half hrs late and arrived to a cold wet evening. Thankfully the next morning was dry and bright if chilly. Boston is a pleasant city, small enough to walk around, rare for a US city, and we walked 7-8 miles each of the next 2 days until I was limping. Each area is different, the old colonial centre with so much history related to the War of Independence, Beacon Hill with its elegant red brick houses and narrow streets, uneven brick pavements, and old gaslights, Reclaimed Back Bay with large mansions and wide boulevards, a renovated waterfront and modern areas with tall glass skyscrapers. All surrounded by water so we had some excellent fish with odd names like cobia and scrod. At a mexican restaurant Martin had what seemed to be a rib from a mammoth, even with my help he couldnt finish it; gives an idea how big it was as I have never seen him not finish a dish, mind you the mountain of guacamole and 200g of tortilla chip starter didnt help. We now have a no starter rule. Dont need a no dessert rule as always too stuffed by then anyway.
