Got in at 5am last night after a great night, wouldnt have been too bad except we were picked up by our transfer at 7.20am this morning - ugh! Got to the ferry port by 8am ready for the boat to Fitzroy Island. Had a coffee and some food in an attempt to feel human again!
An hours boat ride away from Cairns is Fitzroy island - a beautiful, uninhabited beach (well, theres holiday accommodation but noone lives there permanently) island. We had a sleep on the beach which is very pretty but is mainly coral so not particularly comfy! But after only 90mins sleep last night it didnt matter too much. The coral made a lovely twinkly sound as it was moved around by the waves lapping on the shore.
Then we went on the 20min walk to Nudey beach which is simply gorgeous - bright blue sea and white sands on a backdrop of a china blue sky. Will put the photos up soon! Had another sleep (theme here?!) and a sunbathe - its a really relaxed, chilled out beach so was nice just to admire the scenery.
After a bbq lunch we went on a glass bottomed boat tour of the island where we saw lots more coral and learnt about the way all the different species are formed - was really interesting but i think we were spoilt by the views of snorkelling as i dont think we were as impressed as other people on the boat!
Then it was backto the beach for a while before the boat ride home. Had a chilled out evening watching a bit of 'Terminal' on the big screen with tea, before the group went to the cinema to watch the latest Will Ferrell film at the cinema.
